Crompton is one of the leading producers of lighting accessories, lamps and other electrical appliances. Crompton also manufactures HPMV [High Pressure Mercury Vapour] lamps with variety of lumen output and base types. HPMV lamps from Crompton typically emit white light and are available in elliptical shape across a wide range of wattage starting from 80W, 125W, 250W and 400W. These lamps come in a variety of base types which have B22, E27 and E40 cap and pin construction. Lowest lumen output at about 3400 lumens is obtained from 80W lamps which have dimensions of 166.5mm followed by 125W lamps having a lumen output of 6200 lumens and dimension of 185.5mm. Larger 250W and 400 W lamps having dimensions 227 mm and 287mm have lumen output of about 12750 and 22750 lumens respectively.

Technical facts and features:
HPMV lamps are a type of high intensity discharge [HID] lamps. High pressure lamps were developed after the low pressure lamps were developed. Generally, these lamps have a main electrode and a starting electrode inside a glass tube inside the glass bulb. The lamp starts when a small arc is created between the starting electrodes and main electrode. The arc which is started passes through Argon gas present in the lamp. This arc generated heated up the glass tube with few minutes and this heat is enough to heat up the mercury present in the tube ultimately vaporizing it. This particular action of mercury being vaporized creates light between the two electrodes present inside the glass tube. A ballast is used to control the arc to a limit it from becoming increasingly stronger.
HPMV lamps are suitable for outdoor applications like lighting in parks and streets, warehouses as well as microscopy, photo-lithography, etc.
Only down side to these HPMV lamps is related to the use of Mercury inside the glass tube. These lamps if not properly disposed can cause adverse environmental effects as well as the. Apart from this these lamps take a few minutes before they start emitting light at its full capacity.
Benefits of using HPMV lamps:
1. HPMV lamps are more energy efficient than incandescent lamps
